This course was very informative in a productive time-frame. The use of charts and diagrams help support the information as well as keep the student engaged. It's a very interesting and complex topic which is broken down and given to you in manageable amounts and in understandable vocabulary. Overall, a great course with wonderful information!

Lazarus phenomenon is phenomenal! Dr.Jabr makes this topic very engaging. No boring power points or dry journal reviews! I’m secretly hoping my next code auto-resuscitates! I hope courses like this are the future of EMS CME! I’d rather listen and learn from Dr. Jabr than some boring, uninspired corporate power point.

Alex did it again! I previously took one of her courses and had high hopes that this one would be just as interesting and educational. I wasn’t disappointed as this one was even better! The Lazarus Phenomenon, although witnessed by multiple medical professionals, is simply not spoken about enough. Alex takes the time to dive into and present the research and various case studies. Although this is an online CE class, you are made to feel like you’re in the room with the instructor casually chatting about one of the most fascinating medical phenomena out there. I look forward to sharing with all of my students!

Aside from the amazing cases covered on auto resuscitation, I found that if I had had this knowledge previously I would have been more competent and more comfortable with pronouncing patients. As a Paramedic it is difficult to make the decision to pronounce when it is not so obvious and fear of making a mistake can push us in the wrong direction. You’ll learn tools in this course to help you pronounce in a more competent manner and also understand how this phenomenon occurs and it’s outcomes.

CE Course: Unearthing the Mysteries of the Lazarus Phenomenon

Can you imagine terminating a resuscitation only to have your patient experience a delayed return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) all on their own? This rare but real medical mystery is also known as the Lazarus Phenomenon. But whats the history behind it? What are the implications of an 'auto-resuscitation' for emergency care providers? How should we respond to this ultra-rare, seemingly spontaneous medical mystery if it occurs? In this continuing education course, we'll explore everything there is to know about the Lazarus Phenomenon and how to respond if you ever encounter it. This CE activity is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) for 1 First Responder, Basic or Advanced CEH.

Meet Your Instructor

Resilience Educator

Alexandra Jabr, Ph.D, EMT-P

Since beginning my EMS career in 2003, I have played many parts in the system, including EMT, Paramedic, cardiac tech, CQi specialist, and instructor. Still, my most fulfilling one to date is my role as a Resilience Educator and creator of Emergency Resilience. I earned a Masters's degree in death, grief, and bereavement and my Ph.D. in depth psychology. As a first responder, I've taken my time in the field, added my personal experiences as a bystander, and merged it with my research to create courses designed especially for first responders. Emergency Resilience is an educational platform dedicated to helping you build resilience in unpredictable work environments by integrating marginal topics into routine training.
